Top 9 vegetarian food spots of Kochi

Let’s get straight to it, the list is in no particular order

Kerala puttu and pazham puttu og breakfast

The latest addition to Kochi's vegetarian spots, and it was an instant addition to our favourite list. It is as good as the Palakkad one albeit a bit pricier, but still so cheap by Kochi standards. Filter coffee @₹14 is the best in town. It's a good place for car spotting too lol because of the types of cars and people that come in.

This is a small hole in the wall/ roadside eatery right before the Edapally toll jn which serves super fresh vadas, dosas, upma etc with yum chutneys. Their nice dark red board with yellow writing is what attracted our first visit here. I have a soft spot for Tamil Nadu breakfast items and this is perfect place for it. They have recently opened a new shop with more seating area on the Edapally-Pookatupadi Rd and the food is equally good. Spelling may not be their strong suite though.

Our go-to place for North Indian food. Simple, very authentic north Indian joint run by Gujarati people ( what I remember from my earliest conversation with them, but could be false memory, given the place name, which I never asked about). The chetan at reception is super friendly and keeps making random jokes, he speaks fluent Malayalam too. I’ve heard that the same people run Just Tiffin’s at Kakkanad and also the Urban Paratha chains. I promise you to verify all this information on my next visit.

Next, very beloved vegetarian place. Again, run mostly by Tamilians. They also have different specials running every day like semiya upma etc. Also, do not miss their sweets and chat shop.

This is one place where I go for the ambience more than the food itself. The building was established in 1919 and apparently before it was a coffee house, it was a ballroom dance floor! (ref: Mathrubhumi)

Another place which has stood the test of time since 1955! Must try items are their bondas, masala dosas and anything really. I am disappointed with their new-modern cafe board though, I feel it took away much of the old school charm.

A nice place to take your family for a vegetarian dinner. All the waiters are veterans which is always a good signs. The customer service was excellent. One time, the tomato soup we ordered tasted like curry gravy which we sent back after a taste and they didnt charge for it. (Life pro tip: never order dosa at a Chinese place). I remember loving the masala papadam and other items.

Eggetarian, but deserves a mention. You’ll be spoilt for choices.

Best doughnuts and cream bun in the city and they’re technically vegetarian. So, 😛.

This is definitely not a complete list and places like Gokul Ootupura, Ambisamys etc are also great options. Do let us know of your favourite places! PS: We removed Tiffin Company/Kumbakonam Degree Coffee from the list due to recent experience. It's not that good anymore.
